M.K. Stalin publicly challenged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman over a letter her Ministry sent to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, which he says asked the State to reconsider or discontinue its paddy bonus scheme. He asked her to release the letter publicly if her claim that States retain full discretion over such bonuses is true.

Hon'ble Tmt. @NSitharaman,
In the letter your Ministry sent to the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, it is clearly stated that since the State’s additional bonus for paddy has led to bumper production, the State government should consider discontinuing the bonus.
I have not stated anything that is not present in that letter. Nor is there any need for me to.
While you have stated in your tweet that it is up to the State Governments to consider bonus above MSP to paddy farmers and nobody has taken away such rights, the letter sent to us clearly asked us - to review the existing bonus policy of the State Government and consider discontinuing the bonus on paddy.
If your current claim is true, will you place that letter in the public domain?
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin posted a public rebuttal addressed to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, disputing her claim that State Governments retain unrestricted authority to offer bonuses to paddy farmers above the Minimum Support Price (MSP). Stalin said a letter sent by her Ministry to the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary explicitly stated that the State's additional paddy bonus had led to bumper production, and suggested the State should consider discontinuing it. He said he had not stated anything beyond what the letter contained and challenged Sitharaman to make the letter public if her tweet's claim - that no one has restricted States' rights to pay such bonuses - was accurate. The exchange reflects a recurring Centre-State friction point over agricultural support measures for paddy farmers in Tamil Nadu, with Stalin positioning the State Government as the party being pressured by the Union Government despite its public assurances to the contrary.
