Highlighting Tamil Nadu's environmental leadership during his Chennai campaign trail, M.K. Stalin detailed the ambitious ecological restoration initiatives rejuvenating the city's degraded waterways. Under the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust, the government removed decades of industrial sludge from the Adyar and Cooum basins while setting up decentralized sewage treatment plants.
Stalin drew special attention to the protection of the Pallikaranai marshland, a designated Ramsar site vital for regional climate resilience and natural flood absorption. By combining urban civil engineering with biological restoration, the DMK administration broke from past concrete-heavy development models. The Chief Minister affirmed that building a climate-resilient Chennai is not a luxury, but an urgent necessity for the survival and prosperity of future generations.
