He gave the committee detailed instructions: each member was to act as his direct representative and to relay cadre sentiment honestly, without personal bias, without trying to protect or punish anyone, and always in pairs rather than meeting individuals alone. He asked them to let party workers speak freely about their grievances and the reasons for the election result, stating that criticism directed at him personally should also be recorded. He compared the exercise to a medical diagnosis, saying reforms can only be made once the underlying problem is clearly known, and instructed the committee not to share information with anyone else, especially those implicated. The committee's report is due by 5 June, with corrective action to follow by the end of June, as part of an internal post-election review process.
