DMK president M.K. Stalin marked the birth anniversary of former Indian Prime Minister V.P. Singh, describing him as a guardian of social justice who emerged from outside the Dravidian movement's home region in the north. Stalin said that although India has seen many prime ministers, Singh's brief tenure stood out for the resolve he showed in establishing social justice, treating the post of prime minister itself as secondary to that cause. He said Singh, like the DMK, held that political power and positions were not as important as the principle of social justice, and noted that Singh was regarded as a prime minister favoured by Tamil Nadu and its people. Stalin also recalled Singh's support for DMK leader Karunanidhi during a difficult political period, calling him a true ideological ally, and paid a salute to his memory.
