DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the arrest of former minister Anitha Radhakrishnan, alleging it was carried out because she criticised the chief minister while she was conducting a survey and engaging with the public in her constituency. He accused the chief minister of running the state like a 'police raj' in cinematic fashion. Stalin contrasted this swift action with what he described as continued inaction on a complaint of gang sexual assault made against a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam MLA from Thiruvaikundam, questioning why the government showed no similar urgency there. He further alleged the government was inducting legislators from other parties despite failing to curb murders, robberies and crimes against women statewide, asking rhetorically how many people would need to be arrested if every remark by ministers were treated as grounds for arrest, and describing the chief minister's conduct as driven by ego.
