DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a meeting of the party's Parliamentary members ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. He said DMK MPs would strongly raise their voice against efforts to construct the Mekedatu dam on the Cauvery river and to safeguard Tamil Nadu's rightful claim over Cauvery waters, an issue of long-standing concern for delta farmers in the state. Stalin said that regardless of what new legislation the Union government brings forward, the DMK's position would be to protect state rights and the Constitution. He described DMK MPs as acting as the conscience of the people of Tamil Nadu in Parliament. The statement reflects the party's continuing emphasis on federalism and Centre-State relations, positioning opposition to the Mekedatu dam and protection of Cauvery water rights as central to its parliamentary agenda for the session.
