DMK president M.K. Stalin marked the 150th birth anniversary of Tamil reformer and writer Maraimalai Adigal, praising his lifelong advocacy for the 'thani tamil' (pure Tamil) movement and his opposition to the imposition of Sanskrit and Hindi. Stalin noted that the party's cultural and literary wing, the Kazhaga Kalai Ilakkiya Peravai, had organised celebrations to mark the occasion. He recalled that Maraimalai Adigal, born Vedhachalam, renamed himself and dedicated his life to the Tamil renaissance, authoring works including one questioning whether Hindi should be treated as a common language, as part of his resistance to Hindi imposition. Quoting Maraimalai Adigal's appeal that Tamils should give pure Tamil names to their homes, towns and children, Stalin urged the present generation to adopt this practice. He also quoted poet Bharathidasan's verses praising Maraimalai Adigal, and called on people to learn about his life and contributions, framing the tribute within the DMK's continuing ideological commitment to Tamil language protection.
