Election commission' s decision to hide ruling party symbols from buses, water bottles shows how AIADMK abused public money 4 own popularity

Editorial context

Delivering a scathing indictment of the ruling party's personality cult, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on March 14, 2014, declared that the Election Commission's order directing the masking of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's photographs and AIADMK symbols from government buses and state water bottles stood as undeniable proof of how public resources had been brazenly abused for personal self-glorification. Stalin pointed out that instead of utilizing public funds to modernize decaying bus fleets, improve hospital dispensaries, or ease the burden of water scarcity, hundreds of crores of taxpayer money were squandered on printing the Chief Minister's face on every government facility and consumable product. He remarked that covering up these ubiquitous portraits ahead of the parliamentary elections was an embarrassing rebuke to an administration that treated the state treasury as its private estate. Stalin emphasized that genuine public welfare does not require narcissism or megalomania, pointing out that Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi's landmark schemes—such as the free color television scheme and health insurance—were implemented solely for the dignity and empowerment of the people without degrading state institutions. He affirmed that the DMK will restore democratic modesty.
