My petition in court leads to Election Commission ruling.
Welcoming a landmark constitutional victory for free and fair elections, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on March 14, 2014, announced that his legal petition before the Madras High Court had successfully compelled the Election Commission of India to issue strict directives restraining the ruling AIADMK from misusing public property for partisan political promotion. Stalin pointed out that the AIADMK administration had brazenly violated the Model Code of Conduct by plastering Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's photograph and ruling party symbols across thousands of state-owned transport corporation buses, government water bottles, and public welfare distribution materials funded by taxpayers. He emphasized that the DMK's principled legal intervention forced the Election Commission to intervene decisively and order the immediate masking and removal of all political branding from public assets. Stalin asserted that in a constitutional democracy, public funds must never be hijacked to build personal personality cults or gain illicit electoral advantages. He commended the judiciary and the Election Commission for upholding electoral integrity, affirming that the DMK will continue to vigilantly safeguard democratic norms and constitutional morality throughout the election process. He affirmed that fair electoral competition remains fundamental to constitutional democracy.
