Editorial context

Articulating the core popular grievances dominating the 2014 parliamentary election, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on March 14, 2014, emphasized that skyrocketing price rise, pervasive corruption, and complete administrative paralysis under the AIADMK regime constituted the definitive issues before the electorate. Stalin observed that across every district, ordinary families were struggling under the crippling burden of steep price hikes in milk, cooking oil, electricity, and public transport fares imposed by the state government. Meanwhile, systemic bribery had paralyzed government administration, forcing citizens to pay extortionate sums for basic welfare certificates and civic services. Stalin pointed out that Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa had completely insulated herself from the public, remaining secluded in luxury retreats while the state suffered ten-hour power blackouts that forced hundreds of small industrial units to shut down. He recalled the transparent, responsive, and welfare-driven administration maintained under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, which kept essential commodity prices affordable through robust public distribution networks. Stalin called upon the people of Tamil Nadu to vote decisively for the Rising Sun symbol to liberate the state from oppressive misrule. He affirmed that responsive governance remains our highest priority.
