Addressing a mammoth public gathering in the historic heritage city of Kancheepuram on March 18, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin delivered a stirring address championing the welfare of traditional silk handloom weavers, automotive industrial workers, and agrarian communities. Stalin remarked that the vast ocean of citizens gathered under the night sky demonstrated the electorate's unshakeable resolve to reject the corrupt and stagnant AIADMK regime. He pointed out that Kancheepuram's celebrated handloom weaving sector was facing acute distress due to skyrocketing silk yarn and zari prices, lack of marketing subsidies, and recurring power blackouts that paralyzed traditional looms. Stalin recalled the major welfare initiatives executed under previous DMK administrations led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, which established handloom silk parks, provided free electricity units to weavers, and transformed Kancheepuram district into an automotive manufacturing powerhouse by attracting multinational corporations. He promised that the DMK will revive weaver cooperative societies, restore uninterrupted industrial power, and modernize civic infrastructure across the district. Stalin urged the vast gathering to vote overwhelmingly for the Rising Sun symbol to restore economic vitality and cultural pride. He affirmed that supporting traditional artisans remains a sacred cultural duty.
