Launching a determined election campaign across Nagapattinam parliamentary constituency on March 21, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin rallied voters to re-elect veteran parliamentarian and DMK candidate A. K. S. Vijayan with an overwhelming majority. Stalin addressed packed gatherings of paddy farmers, agricultural laborers, marine fishers, and port workers, emphasizing Vijayan's proven track record as a tireless champion of the Cauvery delta in Parliament. He highlighted that Vijayan had consistently fought for delta irrigation rights, crop insurance disbursements, and modernized coastal landing facilities. Stalin pointed out that under three years of the AIADMK regime, Nagapattinam had suffered severe economic distress due to crippling power cuts that shut down ice plants and cold storages, alongside utter state neglect of fishermen attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy. He recalled how previous DMK administrations led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi transformed Nagapattinam through tsunami reconstruction housing, establishing the Tamil Nadu Fisheries University, and waiving farm loans. Stalin called upon the electorate to vote decisively for the Rising Sun symbol. He affirmed the DMK's unshakeable commitment to delta prosperity.
