Leading a spirited election campaign across Mayiladuthurai parliamentary constituency on March 22, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin addressed large gatherings of Cauvery delta farmers, agricultural laborers, handloom weavers, and minority community members, emphasizing that the DMK-MMK alliance represents the harmonious convergence of social justice, secular democracy, and regional agrarian empowerment. He pointed out that Mayiladuthurai had been pushed into severe distress by the AIADMK administration, which failed to protect Tamil Nadu's legitimate share of Cauvery water, neglected ancient irrigation canals, and subjected rural households to debilitating power blackouts. Stalin recalled how previous DMK governments led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi transformed the delta through farm loan waivers, establishing government colleges, and providing free electricity for agrarian pump sets.
