(2/2) farming and infrastructure development.
Emphasizing the vital importance of agrarian revitalization during his statewide campaign tour on March 24, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin underscored that modern farming support and comprehensive rural infrastructure development remain the foundational pillars of Tamil Nadu's economic prosperity. Stalin pointed out that while entering the tenth day of his campaign, farmers across every district voiced desperate pleas for state intervention against recurring droughts, falling crop yields, and unmanageable debt burdens. He criticized the AIADMK administration for neglecting irrigation canals, allowing traditional water harvesting tanks to silt up, and failing to provide uninterrupted three-phase electricity for agricultural pump sets. Stalin recalled the visionary agricultural policies implemented under previous DMK governments led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, which pioneered free farm electricity, waived seven thousand crores of cooperative agricultural loans, and constructed modern Uzhavar Sandhais (farmers markets) to eliminate exploitative middlemen. He pledged that upon returning to power, the DMK will prioritize drip irrigation subsidies, desilt water bodies, and guarantee remunerative minimum support prices. Stalin affirmed that farmer welfare and rural dignity will always remain at the very core of Dravidian governance.
