Addressing a massive and emotionally charged election gathering in Villupuram on March 24, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin championed the urgent economic demands of sugarcane cultivators, agricultural laborers, and rural youth. Stalin pointed out that while the AIADMK regime squandered public funds on extravagant self-promotional advertisements, Villupuram's farmers were left to languish without drought relief or fair minimum support prices for their crops. He highlighted that cooperative and private sugar mills had withheld hundreds of crores in statutory dues owed to cane growers, while the state government acted as a silent spectator. Stalin recalled how previous DMK administrations under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi had protected farmers by waiving seven thousand crores of cooperative agricultural loans, modernizing irrigation canals, and setting up government arts and science colleges across rural taluks. He promised that upon returning to power, the DMK will enforce immediate clearance of cane arrears with statutory interest, ensure uninterrupted agricultural power, and expand rural welfare boards. Stalin called upon the vast audience to vote overwhelmingly for the Rising Sun symbol to restore agricultural dignity. He affirmed that supporting sugarcane farmers and ensuring fair crop remuneration remain sacred duties.
