Editorial context

Addressing a mammoth election gathering at Gobichettipalayam in Tiruppur parliamentary constituency on the night of March 29, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin delivered a scathing indictment of the AIADMK regime's total failure to manage Tamil Nadu's energy and industrial infrastructure. Stalin pointed out that the industrial belt spanning Gobichettipalayam, Tiruppur, and Erode—celebrated as the textile powerhouse of South India—had been reduced to severe distress by unannounced ten-to-twelve-hour power blackouts that forced hundreds of power looms and spinning mills to shut down. He highlighted that thousands of skilled textile workers, daily wage laborers, and small entrepreneurs had lost their livelihoods while Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa remained insulated in Kodanad, completely indifferent to public agony. Stalin recalled the transformative industrial policies executed under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, which provided subsidized power to weavers and set up specialized trade clusters. He promised that the DMK will ensure 24-hour uninterrupted industrial power, modern effluent treatment subsidies, and comprehensive debt relief. Stalin urged the vast gathering to vote overwhelmingly for the Rising Sun symbol to revive industrial vitality. He affirmed that reliable power and industrial modernization are essential for Tamil Nadu's textile dominance.
