Addressing a massive and spirited evening rally in the historic working-class heartland of North Chennai on March 31, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin championed the rights and welfare of harbor laborers, industrial workers, fishermen, and transport employees. Stalin underscored that North Chennai has always stood as the unyielding fortress of the Dravidian movement, where legendary stalwarts like Perarignar Anna and Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi organized historic trade union struggles and social justice movements. He condemned the AIADMK regime for treating North Chennai as an urban dumping ground, pointing out that working-class neighborhoods suffered from unbearable pollution, non-existent storm drainage, broken arterial roads, and neglected primary health centers. Stalin contrasted this callous neglect with the transformative developmental works carried out under previous DMK administrations, which modernized port connectivity, constructed multi-lane expressways, and built concrete housing tenements. He urged the vast gathering to reject ruling party apathy and vote decisively for the Rising Sun symbol to ensure modern urban facilities and fair working conditions. Stalin affirmed that North Chennai's working people will always remain the heartbeat of the DMK. He affirmed that empowering working-class communities remains the core purpose of Dravidian public administration.
