Leading a determined campaign across Vellore parliamentary constituency on April 1, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin rallied voters to secure a decisive victory for Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) candidate Abdul Rahman, contesting as part of the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance. Addressing packed gatherings of leather artisans, beedi workers, small traders, and students, Stalin highlighted Abdul Rahman's exemplary performance as an articulate, fearless parliamentarian who consistently raised regional industrial problems and minority rights in the Lok Sabha. He pointed out that Vellore's historic leather and tanning industries were facing imminent collapse due to crushing ten-hour electricity blackouts, stringent environmental clearance delays, and total lack of state technological support from the AIADMK regime. Stalin recalled the landmark initiatives executed under previous DMK administrations led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, including setting up common effluent treatment plants, establishing Thiruvalluvar University, and creating welfare boards for unorganized laborers.
