Focusing on the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of unorganized industrial laborers, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 5, 2014, engaged directly with fireworks and safety match factory workers during his Virudhunagar campaign trail. Stalin highlighted that the fireworks and printing clusters of Sivakasi and Virudhunagar—which supply over eighty percent of India's requirements—were on the verge of ruin due to debilitating electricity blackouts, raw material inflation, and the lack of state support for modern safety technology. He recalled how previous DMK governments under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi created dedicated unorganized workers welfare boards, provided special accident insurance compensation for fireworks laborers, and established modern testing laboratories to enhance worker safety. Stalin condemned the AIADMK administration for its callous neglect of factory workers' safety standards and its total failure to provide uninterrupted industrial power. He pledged that upon coming to power, the DMK will ensure 24-hour dedicated electricity for manufacturing units, streamline safety regulations, and guarantee comprehensive social security pensions for all match and printing workers. Stalin affirmed the DMK's unending commitment to worker dignity. He affirmed that worker welfare and industrial safety must always be prioritized.
