Reflecting upon the extraordinary popular reception accorded to him throughout Central Chennai on April 7, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin affirmed that the spontaneous crowds gathered across the constituency reaffirmed Chennai's unbreakable historical bond with the Dravidian movement. Stalin remarked that the smiles, applause, and eager handshakes of thousands of ordinary men and women on balconies, terraces, and footpaths reflected genuine hope for change and relief from the oppressive governance of the AIADMK. He pointed out that while the ruling regime governed with arrogance from distant fortresses, the DMK had always lived among the people, sharing their joys and fighting their daily battles for fair housing, clean drinking water, and decent civic infrastructure. Stalin emphasized that the citizens of Chennai recognized that every major landmark and modern amenity in the city—from the Koyambedu terminal to the Kathipara interchange—was created under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi's stewardship.
