Did BJP alliance partners notice that our TN fishermen's issue don't figure in your manifesto?

Editorial context

Confronting regional parties in Tamil Nadu that allied with the National Democratic Alliance, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 7, 2014, demanded an explanation as to why the BJP's national election manifesto completely omitted any mention of the life-threatening attacks suffered by Tamil fishermen. Stalin pointed out that while traditional coastal fishermen from Rameswaram, Nagapattinam, and Pudukkottai faced continuous harassment, arrests, boat confiscations, and fatal shootings by the Sri Lankan Navy in Palk Strait waters, the BJP leadership demonstrated utter apathy by ignoring the crisis entirely. He asked NDA leaders in Tamil Nadu, including the DMDK and PMK, how they could shamelessly solicit votes while unconditionally endorsing a national document that treated Tamil maritime lives as expendable. Stalin emphasized that previous DMK administrations under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi had consistently defended coastal fishermen's sovereign fishing rights, demanded the retrieval of Katchatheevu, and provided extensive financial relief to affected fishing families. He affirmed that only a strong, principled DMK presence in Parliament would compel New Delhi to secure lasting protection for Tamil fishermen. He affirmed that defending coastal fishing communities remains a top national priority for Tamil Nadu.
