Sharply confronting regional parties that allied with the BJP, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 9, 2014, demanded that Tamil Nadu NDA constituents—including the DMDK, PMK, and MDMK—clarify their public stand on contentious national issues. Stalin raised three pointed questions: first, why did the regional allies meekly endorse the BJP's unilateral party manifesto rather than negotiating a common minimum program; second, what was their explicit stance on the BJP's divisive commitments to build a temple at the Babri Masjid site and enforce a Uniform Civil Code that threatens minority personal laws; and third, why did the manifesto completely ignore vital Tamil Nadu concerns, notably the recurring deadly attacks on artisanal fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy. He pointed out that while these regional leaders had built their careers claiming to defend Tamil pride and social justice, they had completely surrendered the state's self-respect to Narendra Modi for narrow political seats. Stalin asserted that Tamil voters deserve complete transparency, urging the electorate to punish this unprincipled compromise by voting decisively for the DMK-led secular alliance. He affirmed that defending state rights and coastal livelihoods requires unwavering political courage.
