Concluding his ideological reflection on the Dravidian movement's enlightened perspective on places of worship, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 10, 2014, reiterated the concluding lines of Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi's iconic dialogue from the revolutionary film Parasakthi. Stalin emphasized that while temples are legitimate spaces for personal solace, reflection, and spiritual contemplation, they must never be allowed to degenerate into hideouts for anti-social elements, corrupt syndicates, or casteist oppressors who exploit faith to perpetuate injustice. He explained that the core mission of the Self-Respect movement founded by Thanthai Periyar and carried forward by Kalaignar was to rescue religion and temple spaces from feudal exploitation, superstition, and social exclusion, ensuring that every human being is treated with equal dignity before the law and society. Stalin pointed out that the DMK had consistently enacted progressive reforms, including appointing trained priests from all castes and reclaiming encroached temple lands for public welfare. He urged progressive citizens to embrace this rational, compassionate philosophy that harmonizes cultural respect with social justice. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will always defend the moral sanctity of public spaces against regressive misuse.
