Advising Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa to confront official administrative facts rather than spreading baseless campaign falsehoods, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 11, 2014, urged her to examine official Right to Information documents comparing electricity generation planning under DMK and AIADMK regimes. Stalin explained that the RTI records clearly demonstrated that the previous DMK government under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi had initiated, funded, and advanced massive thermal, hydel, and renewable energy projects—including the North Chennai, Vallur, and Mettur thermal expansions—which required meticulous long-term engineering planning and administrative competence. In contrast, the AIADMK administration had failed to conceive or execute a single megawatt of new generation capacity in three full years, instead relying on opportunistic short-term power purchases at inflated rates that drained the state exchequer. Stalin emphasized that resolving complex energy crises demands visionary planning and administrative dedication rather than blaming previous governments or opposition parties. He pledged that upon returning to office, the DMK will systematically restore energy self-sufficiency, ensuring reliable, uninterrupted power supply for industries, agriculture, and domestic consumers.
