Severely criticizing the ruling AIADMK government for its total indifference to common people's economic suffering, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 13, 2014, pointed out that runaway price rise over the past three years was an urgent crisis that Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa never addressed in office and cowardly evaded during her election campaign. Stalin highlighted that the retail prices of essential food commodities, groceries, bus fares, electricity tariffs, and milk had doubled and tripled under AIADMK rule, completely devastating the budgets of daily-wage laborers, salaried employees, and poor households. He pointed out that while ordinary mothers struggled to feed their children, the Chief Minister traveled exclusively by helicopter, remaining completely insulated from the ground reality of working people. Stalin recalled that previous DMK administrations under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi proactively curbed inflation by establishing Uzhavar Sandhais, expanding public distribution subsidies, and providing free health insurance to protect families from catastrophic health debt. He called upon the electorate to punish this unfeeling, elitist administration at the ballot box by voting for the Rising Sun symbol to restore compassionate, price-stabilizing governance.
