Conducting an on-site inspection of manufacturing units in Erode on April 15, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin directly engaged with small-scale industrialists and textile entrepreneurs to examine the devastating economic fallout of Tamil Nadu's chronic electricity crisis. Stalin observed that due to eight to ten hours of unscheduled daily load-shedding under the AIADMK regime, small engineering workshops, powerlooms, and processing mills were forced to rely on expensive diesel generators just to keep machines running. He pointed out that burning diesel increased operating costs by over three hundred percent, completely eroding profit margins, rendering local products uncompetitive against national rivals, and pushing hundreds of micro-enterprises into debt and closure. Stalin contrasted this severe crisis with the proactive energy planning under previous DMK administrations led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, which added new thermal and hydel capacities while maintaining subsidized power tariffs for small businesses. He criticized Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for making empty promises about power self-sufficiency while failing to commission stalled transmission networks. Stalin demanded emergency industrial power relief, pledging that the DMK will restore uninterrupted electrical supply to revive Erode's manufacturing engine.
