The project well executed would have supplied drinking water for lakhs but not fully functional yet due to this administrative lethargy.
Expressing severe frustration over administrative incompetence and political malice, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 17, 2014, criticized the ruling AIADMK government for failing to make the landmark Hogenakkal Drinking Water and Fluorosis Mitigation Project fully functional. Stalin pointed out that when properly commissioned and managed, this monumental engineering initiative was designed to supply clean, treated drinking water to over three million people across Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, permanently eradicating crippling fluorosis bone diseases. However, due to chronic bureaucratic apathy and political jealousy, vital pipeline distribution networks remained incomplete, leaving hundreds of remote villages and town panchayats still deprived of safe water. Stalin recalled that previous DMK administrations under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi secured Japanese development loan assistance, executed massive water treatment plants, and laid thousands of kilometers of pipelines with unprecedented speed. He condemned Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa for treating a vital humanitarian health project with casual neglect. Stalin demanded immediate operationalization of all distribution conduits, pledging that the DMK will guarantee universal water security across the region. He affirmed that access to pure potable water remains an undeniable fundamental right of every citizen.
