Denouncing the state government's callous cruelty toward vulnerable citizens, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 20, 2014, strongly condemned the brutal police assault unleashed on differently abled persons protesting peacefully in Chennai for their legitimate rights. Stalin stated that beating up physically challenged citizens who were merely demanding implementation of statutory reservations and enhanced monthly maintenance allowances was an unpardonable violation of basic human dignity. He highlighted that while the AIADMK administration deployed police batons against differently abled individuals, the previous DMK government under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi created a dedicated welfare department for the differently abled, instituted three percent employment reservations, and distributed retrofitted motorized vehicles. Stalin pointed out that true governance is measured by how tenderly and equitably a state treats its most vulnerable citizens. He demanded an unconditional public apology from the government, immediate withdrawal of police cases against the protestors, and full concession of their reasonable welfare demands. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will always stand as the staunch defender and patron of differently abled communities throughout Tamil Nadu. He affirmed that compassionate assistance for differently abled citizens reflects the moral core of Dravidian social ideology.
