Highlighting the acute insecurity faced by women under the AIADMK administration, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 20, 2014, shared alarming video reports documenting the surge in violent crimes against women, asking what crime women had committed to endure such state apathy. Stalin pointed out that despite grand official claims of women's empowerment, horrifying incidents of sexual assaults, daylight chain-snatching, domestic violence, and workplace harassment had reached record levels across Tamil Nadu. He condemned the state police for adopting a lethargic, insensitive approach toward women complainants, frequently failing to register first information reports or investigate perpetrators with political connections. Stalin contrasted this alarming breakdown with the landmark progressive measures introduced by previous DMK governments under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi, which enacted equal property rights for women, instituted 33 percent reservation in government jobs, and established all-women police stations to ensure prompt justice. He demanded stringent enforcement of anti-harassment laws, round-the-clock women's protection cells in every municipal zone, and fast-track courts. Stalin pledged that the DMK will relentlessly fight to guarantee women's safety and constitutional dignity. He affirmed that safeguarding the constitutional dignity of women remains non-negotiable for civilized governance.
