Condemning the high-handed executive abuses and police intimidations executed by the ruling AIADMK government, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on April 20, 2014, asserted that such blatant authoritarian misconduct would have triggered massive media outrage and swift judicial rebuke in any other democratic state. Stalin explained that the ruling regime had systematically misused official machinery to fabricate false cases, unleash unlawful surveillance against opposition organizers, and stifle basic civil liberties during the election campaign. He pointed out that while courts in other jurisdictions actively stepped in to safeguard constitutional rights against executive excess, Tamil Nadu's ruling party operated with shocking impunity, aided by a suppressed and compliant local media. Stalin emphasized that when democratic dissent is criminalized and public institutions are hijacked for partisan vendettas, constitutional democracy itself is endangered. He recalled how the DMK had consistently withstood authoritarian repression, from the Emergency onwards, emerging stronger each time through people's unyielding solidarity. Stalin affirmed that the DMK will not be intimidated by police high-handedness, pledging to pursue legal remedies to restore constitutional accountability. He affirmed that democratic resilience will always overcome administrative repression and state-sponsored intimidation.
