Criticizing the meager relief assistance announced for victims of the Chennai Central railway station bomb blasts, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on May 4, 2014, called upon both the state and central governments to provide substantial financial compensation and long-term rehabilitation support. Stalin pointed out that the nominal monetary aid offered by authorities was wholly insufficient to cover prolonged surgical procedures, trauma care, and ongoing livelihood loss suffered by severely injured passengers and their families. He highlighted that many victims were daily-wage earners and young professionals traveling across states who faced permanent disability and devastating financial ruin due to the attack. Stalin demanded that the government sanction a minimum ex-gratia compensation of five lakh rupees for seriously injured survivors, alongside comprehensive coverage of all hospital expenditures in specialized private or government medical centers. He also urged the provision of government employment assistance for the kin of deceased victim Swathi. Stalin emphasized that true administrative compassion is measured by how swiftly and generously a state supports innocent citizens stricken by senseless violence, demanding immediate cabinet intervention to enhance relief. He affirmed that supporting innocent victims reflects the moral integrity of a welfare state.
