Responding with deep concern to the shocking twin bomb explosions aboard the Bangalore-Guwahati Express at Chennai Central railway station, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on May 6, 2014, demanded comprehensive security upgrades across all transit hubs in Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that the heinous terror attack, which claimed the life of an innocent young woman and critically injured fourteen passengers, exposed glaring deficits in railway station surveillance, metal detector functioning, and platform luggage screening. He stated that Tamil Nadu had historically remained an oasis of communal harmony and peace, making this breach of public security deeply distressing for every citizen. Stalin urged both the Union Ministry of Railways and the state police to abandon complacency and implement multi-layered security cordons, deploy sniffer dog squads, and install high-definition closed-circuit television networks at all major railway terminals. He emphasized that ensuring civilian safety requires seamless coordination between central intelligence units and state counter-terrorism agencies. Stalin demanded that the government take full financial responsibility for the victims, provide specialized healthcare without cost, and expedite justice by swiftly apprehending the perpetrators. He affirmed that public safety must always remain paramount in transport administration.
