Dr Kalaignar's DMK govt released a postal stamp in 2010 for Robert Caldwell. Proud to celebrate his 200th birthday today as a tribute.

Editorial context

Paying rich tribute to pioneering linguistic scholar Bishop Robert Caldwell on his bicentennial birth anniversary on May 7, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin celebrated Caldwell's monumental role in establishing the independent classical antiquity of Dravidian languages. Stalin highlighted that Caldwell's seminal nineteenth-century comparative grammar proved scientifically that Tamil and its sister southern languages constitute a distinct, self-sufficient language family independent of Sanskrit, laying the intellectual foundations for modern Dravidian renaissance and cultural self-respect. He recalled with deep pride that the previous DMK government under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi officially recognized Caldwell's immense contributions by releasing a commemorative postal stamp in 2010 and renovating his memorial home in Idayankudi. Stalin emphasized that honoring global scholars who dedicated their lives to Tamil research reflects the movement's gratitude and intellectual openness. He noted that Caldwell's research continues to inspire generations of linguists, sociologists, and historians exploring peninsular India's glorious heritage. Stalin reaffirmed the DMK's steadfast commitment to advancing Tamil scholarship, promoting scientific linguistic research, and safeguarding the state's classical linguistic sovereignty against contemporary attempts at cultural homogenization and linguistic suppression. He reiterated that linguistic scholarship forms the foundation of modern Dravidian self-respect.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
