Mr @narendramodi Hindi is being imposed on 55% of non-hindi speaking govt servants & general public. Is this max governance, min government?
Challenging the newly elected Union Government over regressive linguistic policies, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on June 19, 2014, questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding administrative circulars directing central departments and social media handles to prioritize Hindi. Stalin pointed out that over fifty-five percent of government employees and the vast majority of Indian citizens belong to non-Hindi speaking states. He asked pointedly whether imposing a single northern language upon a diverse federal nation represented the Prime Minister's promised doctrine of maximum governance and minimum government. Stalin argued that effective administration requires streamlining public services and fostering cooperative federalism rather than stoking regional discontent through linguistic chauvinism. He recalled how historical Anti-Hindi agitations led by the DMK compelled the Union Government under Jawaharlal Nehru to enact statutory assurances guaranteeing the continued use of English. Stalin warned that resurrecting language controversies would derail developmental focus and alienate southern states. Urging the Prime Minister to withdraw all coercive language directives immediately, Stalin declared that the DMK stands vigilant as the foremost champion of regional equality, linguistic rights, and constitutional pluralism. He reiterated that cooperative federalism must always respect linguistic equality across all states.
