State govt's overclaims exposed. The govt needs to find long term and permanent solutions to the power crisis. Mere rhetoric won't work.
Exposing the vast discrepancy between official propaganda and everyday ground reality, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on July 9, 2014, declared that the state government's hollow claims of a power surplus had been thoroughly debunked. Stalin pointed out that while ministers routinely proclaimed that Tamil Nadu had achieved continuous electricity self-sufficiency, citizens across tier-two cities, rural towns, and farming villages endured crushing, unannounced power cuts lasting six to ten hours daily. He emphasized that agricultural tubewells stood parched and micro-enterprises suffered catastrophic productivity losses because the government preferred hollow announcements to real power generation capacity additions. Stalin stressed that enduring energy security requires strategic, long-term investments in thermal plants, hydel project modernizations, transmission grid upgradations, and renewable solar energy corridors rather than improvised, expensive short-term power purchases that burdened the state exchequer. He recalled that previous DMK administrations under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi proactively commissioned landmark power plants and established pioneering renewable incentives. Demanding a comprehensive, time-bound roadmap for energy self-reliance, Stalin warned that the DMK would organize statewide agitations to ensure uninterrupted electricity for farmers, entrepreneurs, and ordinary households. He affirmed that sustainable energy infrastructure requires dedicated administrative commitment.
