Issuing a clarion call for civic action and democratic mobilization, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on July 12, 2014, urged all concerned citizens, trade unions, student organizations, and party workers to join a massive protest demonstration in Chennai demanding an independent Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the Moulivakkam disaster. Stalin announced that the protest march would commence from the historic Thalamuthu Natarajan Maaligai in Egmore, symbolizing the Dravidian movement's enduring legacy of standing up for human dignity and public justice. He stressed that sixty-one innocent construction laborers lost their lives due to gross regulatory corruption, and remaining silent would be an act of moral complicity with the perpetrators. Stalin emphasized that this demonstration was not merely a political gathering but a broad humanitarian movement to demand stringent accountability from those who trade human safety for private profit. He called upon the people of Chennai to demonstrate their collective resolve peacefully and forcefully, sending an unmistakable message to the ruling AIADMK regime that public lives cannot be treated as expendable commodities under corrupt urban governance.
