Following an official meeting with Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah on July 12, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin briefed the media on the comprehensive petition presented by the DMK highlighting systemic departmental failures that caused the catastrophic Moulivakkam building collapse. Stalin explained that the memorandum meticulously catalogued the specific lapses of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, the local municipal administration, the Public Works Department, and the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, which collectively permitted illegal construction on unstable marshy terrain. He noted that multiple warnings raised by local residents and civic activists regarding severe structural flaws had been deliberately ignored by regulatory bodies due to political pressures. Stalin told reporters that the Governor listened with grave concern to the delegation's arguments and promised to examine the documentary evidence thoroughly. Stalin reaffirmed that holding high-ranking bureaucrats and political masters accountable was essential to prevent similar urban tragedies in the future. He emphasized that the DMK's legal and political struggle would persist until comprehensive structural accountability, stringent building enforcement, and just compensation for surviving families were completely achieved. He reiterated that public safety brook no bureaucratic compromise.
