We demand immediate discussions on drinking water scarcity, rising prices, power shortage and other issues troubling the people.
Voicing the acute daily distress experienced by millions of working families across the state, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on July 17, 2014, demanded immediate, dedicated discussions in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on severe drinking water deficits, rampant commodity price inflation, and crushing electricity shortages. Stalin pointed out that while agricultural fields parched and industrial manufacturing units faced crippling daily power shutdowns, the ruling AIADMK regime stubbornly stonewalled opposition motions seeking emergency debates on these essential survival issues. He highlighted that women in peri-urban and rural habitations were forced to trek long distances or spend excessive sums on private water tankers due to dilapidated municipal supply systems and dry borewells. Stalin emphasized that the primary purpose of a parliamentary session is to find practical, collective solutions for widespread human suffering rather than passing routine budgetary demands in hasty procedural sessions. He recalled that past DMK administrations under Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi proactively addressed drought and energy crises through innovative desalination plants, combined water supply schemes, and rapid power generation projects. Stalin insisted that the government must address these urgent public necessities immediately without bureaucratic excuses.
