Facing arbitrary parliamentary punishment for fulfilling his constitutional duty, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on July 22, 2014, condemned his suspension alongside party legislators from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly after confronting the Speaker with verified administrative facts. Stalin detailed how DMK lawmakers had sought to place undeniable government records and ground reality before the House to expose unfulfilled infrastructure promises and worsening law and order. Instead of facilitating an honest debate or directing ministers to present factual replies, the Speaker arbitrarily penalized the opposition, ordering marshals to evict elected representatives. Stalin remarked that being penalized for speaking the truth in defense of the public was a badge of democratic honor that he wore with immense pride. He recalled that the Dravidian movement had weathered decades of legislative suppression through steadfast commitment to democratic principles and peaceful mass mobilization. Stalin warned the AIADMK leadership that using executive muscle to silence elected lawmakers inside the assembly would only amplify public discontent outside its chambers. He declared that DMK representatives would take every suppressed question directly to citizen townhalls across Tamil Nadu.
