Acknowledging a significant display of cross-party solidarity in defense of democratic rights, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin on July 26, 2014, expressed sincere gratitude to all opposition parties that petitioned the assembly Speaker to revoke the suspension of DMK legislators. Stalin warmly commended leaders from various political parties who set aside organizational rivalries to defend the constitutional rights of elected representatives to voice public grievances on the assembly floor. He pointed out that the arbitrary en masse suspension of DMK members following heated debates on law and order and civic failures was a blatant attempt to disenfranchise millions of voters represented by the principal opposition. By uniting against authoritarian legislative measures, opposition parties sent a powerful signal that institutional bullying would meet coordinated democratic resistance across Tamil Nadu. Stalin stressed that parliamentary democracy flourishes only when dissent is respected and debate is conducted fairly under transparent procedural rules. He reiterated that the DMK would continue to work collaboratively with like-minded democratic parties, standing resolute against executive high-handedness and fighting steadfastly for institutional accountability, administrative transparency, and the restoration of authentic legislative decorum.
