Editorial context

Highlighting a glaring instance of politically motivated administrative apathy, DMK Treasurer and Kolathur legislator M. K. Stalin criticized the ruling AIADMK government for completely abandoning the Retteri junction flyover project in his Kolathur constituency. Stalin explained that the vital grade separator project was originally conceived, planned, and sanctioned during the previous DMK government to resolve catastrophic traffic gridlock at the intersection of Jawaharlal Nehru Road and Kolathur Main Road, which serves thousands of daily commuters. However, ever since the AIADMK assumed power, the state highways department had failed to take meaningful steps to execute the project, resulting in prolonged delays, escalating land acquisition issues, and unbearable daily traffic bottlenecks for local residents. Stalin emphasized that infrastructure development must never be politicized or stalled out of animosity toward an opposition-represented constituency. He stated that the government's callous indifference had severely degraded the quality of life for suburban commuters and local business owners. Stalin demanded that the highways department immediately allocate necessary capital funds, finalize pending tenders, and commence construction of the Retteri flyover on a war footing without further delay to relieve public hardship.
