Expressing immense joy and profound satisfaction over the water level in the Mullaperiyar Dam reaching one hundred and forty-two feet, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin hailed the milestone as a monumental victory achieved through years of steadfast perseverance by the DMK and dedicated farmers' organizations. Stalin recalled that the battle to protect Tamil Nadu's riparian entitlements under the historic 1886 lease agreement had spanned decades, marked by rigorous legal proceedings, legislative resolutions, and massive grassroots agitations spearheaded by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi. He highlighted that when neighboring Kerala enacted obstructive legislation to prevent water storage, the DMK relentlessly fought the legal battle in the Supreme Court, ultimately securing the landmark constitution bench verdict of May 2014 upholding the dam's structural safety and allowing the storage level to be raised. Stalin emphasized that restoring the water level directly revitalized agrarian livelihoods, ensuring vital irrigation for over two lakh acres of fertile agricultural land and securing drinking water for millions across Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram districts. He saluted the steadfast resilience of the farming community, reaffirming that the DMK will always remain an unshakeable guardian of Tamil Nadu's interstate water rights.
