PM @narendramodi switching to capitalist economy: My conversation with #PTI : http://t.co/O46paW32ro

Editorial context

Speaking in an in-depth interview with the Press Trust of India, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic policies, warning that shifting rapidly toward an unregulated capitalist model threatens the socio-economic welfare of India's working class. Stalin pointed out that the central government was aggressively pursuing policies favoring large corporate conglomerates, diluting vital environmental clearances, weakening labor safety laws, and slashing budgetary allocations for essential rural welfare schemes. He emphasized that in a developing country marked by stark socio-economic disparities, the primary constitutional obligation of the state is to maintain robust public health, universal education, food security, and social safety nets for marginalized communities. Stalin asserted that unchecked privatization and the withdrawal of state welfare mechanisms disproportionately penalize small farmers, informal sector workers, and rural households. The Dravidian movement, built upon egalitarian principles and democratic socialism, has always maintained that economic growth must be accompanied by equitable wealth redistribution and social justice. Stalin called upon the central leadership to reconsider its pro-corporate orientation, urging policies that prioritize grassroots human development, agricultural sustainability, and inclusive prosperity across all Indian states.
