Observing the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3, 2014, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin reaffirmed his party's unyielding pledge to fight for equal opportunities, dignity, and barrier-free environments for differently abled individuals across Tamil Nadu. Stalin emphasized that disability is not an individual limitation but a societal responsibility, demanding that governance systems dismantle physical, institutional, and social barriers that hinder full participation in public life. He recalled that the DMK government led by Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi set a historic national benchmark by creating a dedicated Department for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, instituting comprehensive monthly maintenance allowances, providing customized motorized vehicles, and mandating employment reservations. Stalin expressed deep concern over the AIADMK administration's neglect of these progressive welfare measures, highlighting that thousands of pending maintenance allowance applications and unfilled backlog vacancies had pushed vulnerable citizens into acute hardship. He pledged that the DMK will persistently champion the rights of differently abled citizens, demanding higher pensions, fully accessible public transport, and quality inclusive education to ensure that every individual lives with pride, dignity, and economic self-reliance across the state.
