Calling upon the Tamil Nadu state government to vigorously take up the matter with the Union government, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin demanded the uninterrupted continuation and robust funding of women's Self Help Groups across rural Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that proposed changes in central funding patterns and structural reorganizations threatened to dismantle the vibrant network of microfinance and rural entrepreneurship that sustains lakhs of women. He stressed that Self Help Groups are not mere administrative credit mechanisms but powerful engines of social emancipation that have liberated impoverished women from the clutches of local usurers, elevated household nutrition, and fostered rural leadership. Stalin recalled that as Minister for Rural Development, he spearheaded the historic expansion of the Mahalir Thittam, providing thousands of crores in institutional credit linkages, revolving funds, and vocational training to millions of women. He warned that any administrative dilution or financial reduction by the Centre would inflict catastrophic harm on rural household economies. Stalin urged the Chief Minister to lead an all-party delegation to New Delhi to ensure that central funding and autonomy for Self Help Groups remain fully protected without compromise.
