Editorial context

Sharply condemning the AIADMK state government for obstinately refusing to hold talks with more than one lakh forty-three thousand striking transport workers, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin highlighted the massive hardship inflicted upon over two crore daily commuters across Tamil Nadu. Transport employees across state transport corporations had launched an indefinite strike demanding the implementation of long-delayed wage revisions, settlement of retirement gratuity arrears, and replenishment of depleted employee provident funds. Stalin pointed out that the government's stubborn refusal to engage in bilateral negotiations had brought public bus transit to a grinding halt, paralyzing daily mobility for office workers, hospital patients, rural students, and small traders during the peak holiday travel season. He accused the ruling dispensation of criminal negligence, emphasizing that public transport represents a vital lifeline that cannot be suspended due to executive arrogance. Stalin recalled that DMK governments always resolved transport union demands swiftly through fair collective bargaining, ensuring uninterrupted public transit. He demanded that the Chief Minister intervene immediately, hold transparent negotiations with transport trade unions, and accept their legitimate economic demands to restore bus services across the state.
