Extending warm congratulations to Maithripala Sirisena on his election as President of Sri Lanka in the historic January 2015 presidential polls, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin expressed hope that the new administration would deliver genuine justice and equality to the Tamil people. Stalin highlighted that the Tamil and Muslim minorities in the Northern and Eastern provinces had voted overwhelmingly for political change, playing a decisive role in unseating the authoritarian regime of Mahinda Rajapaksa. He stressed that the electoral verdict was a powerful expression of hope by Eelam Tamils who had endured decades of military brutality, structural discrimination, land grabs, and institutional disenfranchisement. Stalin urged the newly elected president to reciprocate the trust of Tamil citizens by demilitarizing the traditional Tamil homeland, restoring seized lands to original owners, releasing political prisoners, and investigating wartime atrocities through independent mechanisms. He reaffirmed that the DMK remains irrevocably committed to the political rights, dignity, and self-determination of Eelam Tamils, calling upon the Indian government to maintain proactive diplomatic pressure to ensure full implementation of democratic devolution and human rights protections in Sri Lanka.
