DMK, a Democratic Party with secular views, opposes religious fundamentalism & supports Article 19 that guarantees freedom of speech.
Reaffirming the DMK's foundational identity as a democratic and secular movement, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin voiced staunch opposition to religious fundamentalism while defending constitutional guarantees of free speech under Article 19. Stalin asserted that intellectual liberty, creative writing, and fearless philosophical inquiry are the lifeblood of a healthy democratic society. When extremist groups and reactionary elements attempt to police artistic expression or silence dissenting literary voices through threats and coercive intimidation, they strike at the foundational pillars of the Indian Constitution. The Dravidian movement, forged through rationalist publications, self-respect literature, and bold theatrical critiques of orthodoxy, has historically defended writers, artists, and thinkers against censorship. Stalin emphasized that the state government has a constitutional duty to protect creative individuals rather than capitulate to intolerant mobs demanding the suppression of ideas. He warned that allowing religious and caste chauvinism to dictate cultural boundaries would destroy the peaceful, pluralistic fabric of Tamil Nadu. Stalin pledged that the DMK will persistently champion freedom of expression, oppose fundamentalist aggression, and defend the rights of citizens to write, think, and express themselves without fear.
