Expressing deep disappointment over the stubborn reluctance of both the central and state governments to pass on the benefits of plummeting global crude oil prices to ordinary citizens, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to immediately roll back public bus fares. Stalin highlighted that international crude prices had crashed by more than fifty percent, yet the central government had repeatedly increased excise duties while the state government maintained inflated sales taxes on diesel and petrol. He pointed out that state transport undertakings, which had previously justified steep bus fare hikes citing unbearable fuel expenditures, were now enjoying substantially reduced operational costs. Instead of providing economic relief to millions of daily working-class commuters, students, and rural passengers, the AIADMK regime continued to pocket the windfall profits while running services poorly. Stalin urged Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam to demonstrate administrative empathy and reduce bus fares proportionately. He declared that an equitable administration must prioritize public transit affordability over bureaucratic profiteering, warning that the DMK would organize public protests if the ruling regime failed to provide transport relief.
