Demanding an immediate and thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the multi-thousand-crore illegal beach sand mining scandal in southern Tamil Nadu, DMK Treasurer M. K. Stalin published a set of critical questions demanding governmental accountability. Stalin highlighted extensive investigative reports and revenue department inspections revealing massive illegal extraction of heavy beach sand minerals, including titanium, ilmenite, rutile, and zircon, across coastal stretches of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari. He pointed out that private mining cartels, operating with impunity under ruling party patronage, had systematically looted public natural resources, caused catastrophic ecological damage, and violated coastal regulation zones. Stalin emphasized that the magnitude of the scam, coupled with the involvement of influential state functionaries and administrative collusion, rendered routine state police inquiries completely inadequate. He questioned why the state government had failed to act on damning inspection reports submitted by upright revenue officials like former Tuticorin Collector Ashish Kumar. Stalin insisted that only a court-monitored CBI probe could unravel the full depth of financial fraud, recover looted public wealth, and hold powerful corporate and political culprits accountable before the law.
